Is it common for a Chahoua to drop their tail?

Chahouas are not prone to dropping their tails. Generally if they do loose it, it is due to fighting with a pairing gone wrong, when people try to cohab them, or it accidentally getting shut in a door.

The Art & Science of Chahoua Pairing

I had an amazing season last year, this season has sucked for me. I only have a few pairs so I don't have nearly as many, but last season one pair laid 4 clutches, all but one egg was fertile, another pair (my oldest pair) laid 3 clutches, all but one was infertile, the newest pair had 2...

Which incubator are you using ?

I have the exoterra. I had intended on getting a custom one made however the person never started it in time when they said they would so I had to quickly get one. I have had this one 3 seasons now without an issue, I however do have a backup exoterra incubator in case it ever fails (got it...

    First dud egg. Now what?

Yep! Like I said you will notice her getting rather large, and she may get one more clutch in before the end of the season. My gals tend to stop right around September naturally.

    First dud egg. Now what?

Generally these guys lay every 6-8 weeks. You will be able to notice her physically gravid as they get pretty round! These guys are know to not bury their eggs so be sure to check often. Keeping them bioactive with a thick moss top layer helps keep the eggs getting too dried out. Also be sure...

Live planted tanks- How do you do YOUR plants?

This is the brand of sphag moss I recommend, its really clean (very little sticks) https://besgrow.com/spagmoss/ You can also mix organic peat moss into it also, I used to use this when I did live plants, however now I get a little more scientific and actually add things like worm castings...

    Injuries

Oh it looks like they changed the name of it. https://lafeber.com/vet/lafeber-products/emeraid-carnivore-100gr/ They also have an omnivour diet, however since these guys need more insects I would recommend the carnivore diet. It used to be only for birds, Lafabers started out as an avian...

Live planted tanks- How do you do YOUR plants?

There is a difference between top soil and potting soil. If you get top soil, this will not have perlite or vermiculite. But there isnt a huge danger with this, for years perlite was what people used (myself included) on egg laying box medium. And generally the fertilizer you find in organic...

    Night Time Lighting

People often ask if their reptiles need night time lighting, some say yes, others say no. Some say red or black light, others say if you are going to offer a night heat source make it a CHE. I long understood that these "night time bulbs" had negative effects on reptiles eyes, no real scientific...

    Hatchling size

I am only working on a spreadsheet for chahoua. It is already been documented in crested geckos temperature plays a role in hatchling size. I am just trying to see if there is a difference, and where the temp is if that is true in chahoua also

Live planted tanks- How do you do YOUR plants?

although 2 of my 3 breeder tanks have drainage layers in them, one doesnt. I also keep all of my male cresteds bioactive, again with no drainage layer. It is really more necessary when you have a super saturated enclosure. I however am not as anal as Michael, I don't bleach wood, hell anymore I...

    Egg cutting

I would wait also, these guys can sometimes take a long time to hatch, and what can be full term for someone at 85 days can be pre-mature for someone else.
