To Leachie or not to Leachie... that is the question.

It's been a few years, but I had one GT-B and GTx leachianus at one point in my reptile keeping life.

I bought both of them as adults and one day I was holding the female with no shirt on. She crawled from my hand up my forearm and I moved my arm against my body so she wouldn't fall off. Upon reaching the front side of my elbow, I guess she didn't like that she couldn't crawl any further up my arm, at which point she was even with my nipple. Then she decided to bite the absolute SHIT out of it.

After nipple-gate, I decided Leachies were not the right gecko for me... however, that was 8+ years ago and I've kinda had the urge again lately. I held one from a friend at the last Repticon show and really enjoyed it.

SO...

Are leachie personalities as hit and miss as I've heard? I feel like I remember reading that the island localities are generally more even tempered than the GTs... is that true?

Been thinking about getting one that is snowflake-esque or high color pink/orange. Decisions, decisions...

Well I got pooped on for the first time last night. She's so little that I didn't even really notice until I was trying to figure out what smelled like old eggs 😳

Overall, she's cute and I'm enjoying her so far. Her name is Pickly Lizzy "Lizard" McGuire, as named by my coworkers. Ha!

I quite like Brosse locale for colours and they don't get too big. They also have their own Facebook group (I couldn't find any other locales though). But I like eurydactylodes as they are always out in the daytime, chahouas as they are out in the evenings when I get home from work. I only wanted 1 gecko and now I have 9...i think I'd better stick to just 2 species (for now) and just use the facebook brosse group like a guilty secret porn site, where I can go have a look when I want! :ROFLMAO:

So, for my leachie experts... Pickle Lizzy "Lizard" McGuire doesn't seem to be eating much at all. No insects, which didn't surprise me because I've read that Leachies don't like them as much, but I also can't tell if she's eaten any fruit diet, be it my recipe or Pangea. Does anyone have any pointers? Do leachies take longer to settle in than other gecko species?

I have had issues like this in past. Most of my baby leachies took awhile to settle in. 2-3 weeks sometimes. The tip that I was told is to use a water bottle or water jug cap for food. Something very low to the ground. Also make sure the enclosure isn't too big for the baby. Not sure what you are using, but I have heard that they do best in smaller spaces when they are younger. They seem to need to feel more secure than some of the other New Cal. Species I keep. That's just my observation. Could also help to black out the sides of their enclosure with black paper or drape a black shirt over part of the enclosure for added security. Dont stress out too much! Been there lol.

Thank you - that makes me feel a little better. She's in a shoebox sized tub in a rack system, so she really only has visibility out the front. She's got two slabs of cork and one round, as well as a plant, in her enclosure.

I've been feeding her out of Gatorade caps so that I can more closely monitor what she's eating, but I hope she settles in more soon. I'll keep you guys posted!

Those young leachianus can drive you crazy not eating / growing much. Lizzy will be fine. Mine like Pangea fig and Leapin Leachies new Leachie Linguine. ( LL doesn’t have any preservatives . it must be changed more often )
