    Breeding season, start/end info

So I just want to collect some more data here. I noticed this year that most of my geckos laid a dud clutch before they started laying good ones. I also had 2 girls this week lay single egg clutches when they had previously laid 2 egg clutches. It makes me wonder if my breeding season is winding...

    Egg cutting

The baby that made it is pretty killer, so I'm just going to focus on that. I need to take better pictures of the parents but this is their first baby and I think they are going to do some pretty amazing things together

How to establish boundaries as a breeder without being a jerk

It was about leachies, which there are more breeders of in general. Another incident this week was someone that expressed interest a while back, and then bought from someone else because it was cheaper. It arrived with health issues and instead of contacting the person they got it from, they...

Growth Trends and Adult Sizes: PI vs GT Adults

I am too tired to remember which research papers to link you to, but this isn't crazy at all. Its well documented that reptiles grow incrementally for the duration of their lives, though there is always an exponential growth rate for the young that gradually tapers off as the animal gains...

Post Your Oddball Color and Pattern Chahoua Here

This girl Bijou is my oddball, this is her fired up. She's not fully grown yet but she's about 55g and this is as dark as she gets, and doesn't have much color at all.

    Egg cutting

Well I had an egg start sweating late saturday (6/8) and do nothing. The clutch mate hatched this morning so I cut the egg that was sweating this morning and it was dead in the shell. No idea why it didnt hatch as it seemed fully formed and had the egg tooth. It was also the larger of the two...

    Your (Chahoua's) Favorite Feeder Insects

I just got excited about silkworms today because I am surrounded by mulberry trees and I remembered that's what they eat. Then I come to check and see if anyone has geckos that love them and find no good recommendations. Anyone?

    Hatchling size

Thats very curious to me, I feel like a lot of my chahoua girls are pretty large, but most of my babies have been between 3-3.5g except for Ember who has huge babies, but lays leachie sized eggs.

How to establish boundaries as a breeder without being a jerk

Ok, so this is a rant about frustrating things that potential buyers do, while also trying to come to reasonable solutions. I get people ALL the time that message me saying they are "interested" in a specific gecko and then ask me 5000 questions. This morning, a guy was interested in 2 different...

    Hatchling size

What size are your eggs? The largest difference I have noticed is that the largest babies are coming from MASSIVE eggs. Like leachie sized eggs lol.

    Egg incubation time

Yes, there was a correlation between shorter incubation times and smaller babies. Ill post my data so far to the other thread!

    Egg incubation time

I first learned of that talking to Steve Camelli back in the day and that may have been in reference to leachianus, I dont remember. It could very well be a carryover though and since we've only just recently begun treating the new caledonia geckos as individuals instead of lumping their care...

    Egg incubation time

Holy moly you're growing monsters over there! I have also heard that higher temps, shorter incubation times leads to smaller, less vigorous babies. Apparently thats not true either!

    Calcium Crashes

That is excellent information, thank you. My bottle has an expiration of dec 2020 but it is also calcium gluconate, 23% and has boric acid as a solubilizing agent. I imagine the difference in shelf stability are from different formulations. We should all be super careful about reading labels...

    Calcium Crashes

Hmmmm, the liquid calcium I got from my vet they did not say its only good for 3 months? What kind of calcium are you using?

    Calcium Crashes

Before you can accurately dose calcium, you need to know exactly what concentration you have. That should be on the label for your calcium. Is there a way to upload a spreadsheet to the forum? I use a spreadsheet where I made a formula where I can plug in the calcium concentration and the weight...

    Chahoua Trios? 3-ways? 3 Somes?

Careful observation. I watch my girls and I can almost always pinpoint within a day or two when each girl will lay based on their behavior. I even keep track of each girls cycles from previous seasons in a spreadsheet and can usually predict out for the year with reasonable accuracy once she's...
